In tech news:
Samsung Electronics has developed a flash memory chip which can store huge amounts of data like hundreds of hours of music and movie files.
Using nano-technology that's a tiny fraction of the width of a strand of human hair‚ the semiconductor giant has again charted new territory in this field.
Nam Kiyung explains.
News flash!
Korea's Samsung Electronics has unveiled the world's most powerful memory chip to date that pushes the limit on how much data you can store in products such as cellphones and digital cameras.
''The 64 gigabit NAND flash memory chip can hold 18 thousand MP3 music files. When 16 of the chips are combined into a single 128 gigabyte memory card it can hold over 80 DVD movies.''
A single 128 gigabyte memory card can hold the equivalent of 800 years worth of newspaper articles or 40-thousand books.
The world's number one semiconductor producer said its latest brainchild is based on finer process technology that uses circuit elements of 30 nanometer width.
To put it in perspective‚ that's one-four-thousandth the width of a strand of human hair.
Samsung said it will begin production in 2009‚ and it expects to create a new 20-billion-U.S.-dollar market within three years.
