Here's Jongno Street that runs through downtown Seoul.
What was it like a hundred years ago[Reporter : Lee Ji-yoon‚ jiyoonjlee@arirang.co.kr] "These pictures were taken by Vraz during his three week visit to Seoul at the turn of last century. More than 50 photos of Seoul's streets‚ palaces and homes from a hundred years ago are on display here."
Since the Joseon Dynasty‚ Korea opened its doors to foreign diplomats and travelers from the Western world.
And Vraz‚ who got the chance to visit Seoul for the first time‚ recorded his impressions of the city by taking pictures and writing about it.

Seoul Museum of History] "For the first time‚ Vraz's pictures of old Seoul have been published and exhibited to the public. These pictures have become a new source of Seoul's history as they show the city and the people back in 1901."
The exhibition also presents early Czech books and writings on Korea published before World War II.
Put together by museums and embassies from Korea and the Czech Republic‚ the exhibition aims to provide a better understanding of the cultural relationship between the two countries.
[Interview : Ralf Kaminski‚ Visitor from Switzerland] "It's very interesting I wasn't aware that there was a relationship between the Czechs and Korea at all. It's also interesting to see the perspective of a European on Korea a 100 years ago."

] "It amazes me to see people actually wearing traditional Korean clothes‚ the hanbok‚ on streets. It's also interesting to see Seoul filled with tile and thatched-roof homes."
'Vraz's Visit to Seoul in 1901' will run until July 12th for those of you who want to explore the beginning of friendly ties between Korea and the Czech Republic.
