A group of Korean companies have been selected to build a power plant at a nickel mine in Madagascar off Africa's southeastern coast.
The consortium‚ made up of Daewoo International Corporation‚ Hyundai Engineering and Keangnam Enterprises‚ will build three 40-megawatt heat-and-power generators for the Ambatovy nickel mine east of Antananarivo‚ Madagascar's capital.
When completed in 2009‚ the power plant will be the largest in Madagascar.
Last year‚ another Korean consortium won a 28 percent stake in the Ambatovy mine.
The mine‚ the third-largest nickel mine in the world‚ will produce up to 60-thousand tonnes of nickel annually from 2010.
