International oil prices hit a fresh record‚ as markets are roiled by North Korea's missile launches as well as ongoing tensions over Iran.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange‚ light sweet crude for August delivery jumped a dollar 26 cents‚ to a record close of 75-19 a barrel.
This beats the prior record close of 75-17 set on April 21st.
In London‚ Brent crude for August delivery rose $1.47 to 73-98 a barrel.
Analysts say though not directly related to the energy market‚ the news of North Korea's missile launches‚ highlighted the fact that global geopolitics is currently in a state of considerable potential flux.
Lingering tensions over Iran's nuclear energy crisis also continued to push up oil prices.
