Korean energy companies have found new gas fields‚ and won rights to search for oil in Madagascar and in the North Sea.
Seoul's Ministry of Commerce‚ Industry and Energy says Daewoo International has discovered commercially viable gas reserves‚ in the offshore A-1 block area of Myanmar‚ near Bangladesh.
The company is planning to develop the newly found reserve‚ estimated to produce 57.6 million cubic feet of gas per day‚ with full scale production expected to start in 2009.
Meanwhile‚ Korea's largest petrochemical company‚ SK Corporation said it will take part in the production of four oil fields in the North Sea.
The company also said it has signed a pact that will allow it to develop four separate fields in Madagascar that may yield 220 million barrels of oil.
Currently‚ Korea is involved in 71 oil and gas projects in 26 countries.
