The shooting massacre of elemenatry school children in Connecticut has sparked fresh debate about tightening gun control in the US.
But this may be easier said than done.
In the past‚ even after similar incidents‚ the issue fizzled out due to strong lobbying by gun advocate groups.
Some say this time it may be different citing a more resolved response by President Obama who said "We're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this‚ regardless of the politics."
Others remain skeptical saying that the murder rate is less than half what it was two decades ago‚ and with violent crime down even more‚ gun control has declined as a political issue.
