요약정보
Southeast Asian nations have forged a united position and urged China to quickly begin top-level talks with its neighbors on the territoral disputes in the South China Sea.
The decision came during the annual summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh on Sunday.
ASEAN secretary-general Surin Pitsuwan said the leaders wanted to begin more formal and official talks on a legally binding code of conduct aimed at easing tensions.
Some of the leaders also urged North Korea to stop provocations and return to the six-party talks‚ saying that the unstable situation in the Korean peninsula could spread to neighboring countries.
President Lee Myung-bak is also in Phnom Pen to attend the ASEAN+3 as well as the East Asia Summit.
He met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao earlier in the day where the two agreed to strengthen ties in diplomatic and security areas and further boost trade.
President Lee is also scheduled to meet with leaders from ASEAN member nations and Japanthroughout his stay there.
We'll have more updates on the summit all throughout the day.
