On the issue of the power transition in North Korea following Kim Jong-il's death‚ the White House says it has seen nothing to show that Kim Jong-un's rise to the top of the table has gone anything other than as planned.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney made the statement at a press briefing Wednesday in response to a question that the elite in North Korea may have formed a power-sharing agreement.
Carney also added that the US is monitoring the situation in North Korea closely‚ and expressed hope that the new leadership will take steps to support peace and abide by Pyeongyang's commitments to denuclearization.
Meanwhile‚ regarding possible food aid to North Korea‚ the US State Department says more dialogue is needed between Washington and Pyeongyang before aid can be distributed.
State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters that the US has told the North about the information and commitments it is looking for.
Before Kim Jong-il's death was announced‚ the US was reportedly considering sending about 2-hundred-40-thousand tons of food aid‚ and the North was to respond by freezing its uranium enrichment program

US State Department] "Given the situation in North Korea‚ the folks on the other end of the phone were not newly instructed. So from our perspective we want to be respectful of the period of mourning‚ but the ball's in North Korea's court."
Nuland added that there has not been any new dialogue between the two sides following the telephone contact that was made on Monday local time in the US.
