The Korea-European Union free trade agreement‚ which came into effect on July 1st‚ has led to a significant increase in the number of Korean travelers bringing back luxury goods from Europe.
The Korea Customs Service says in the month of July alone‚ 1‚56 cases of Korean travelers either caught with or reported the luxury goods they purchased‚ surpassing the 4-hundred US dollar limit.
That's a 34 percent jump compared to the same month last year‚ and the increase was much more significant for watches and handbags in line with an eight percent customs reduction for such goods from Europe.
