President Lee Myung-bak sat down with visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Tuesday afternoon for a bilateral summit.
During the one-on-one meeting the two leaders agreed to actively push for a bilateral free trade agreement while emphasizing collaboration in areas such as finance‚ tourism‚ green technology‚ as well as information and communication technology.
President Lee spoke highly of joint oil field exploration and development between the two countries and expressed hope for continued partnership based on such achievements.
To this the Malaysian premier elaborated on his government's plan on gas development in the Northern Sea sometime in May or June and called on Korean corporations to participate in the project.
They also signed memorandums of understanding on promoting cooperation in the sectors of education and culture along with the construction and development of expressways.
The prime minister's three-day visit is to reciprocate President Lee's visit to Malaysia this past December where the two sides reached an agreement on bolstering cooperation in various fields including energy and defense.
