Meanwhile‚ on Monday
radioactive iodine was detected in Korea in rainwater and the atmosphere.
Nuclear safety authorities announced on Monday that the radioactive isotope iodine-131 was found in rainwater on Sunday at seven locations.
It was also detected in the atmosphere on Monday at 12 checkpoints nationwide.
The concentration was much higher in the rainwater than in the air‚ with the highest level measured in rainwater in the city of Cheongju‚ North Chungcheong Province at 1.0-6 becquerel per liter.
However‚ experts say the amount of iodine found in the air and rain is miniscule thus would not pose any health risks to humans.
Meanwhile‚ Korea's tap water has been deemed safe from radiation‚ according to tests at 23 water purification plants.
