Korean National Assembly's special committee for defending Dokdo islets adopted a resolution on Monday urging Japan to scrap its recent approval of textbooks claiming the eastern islets as Japanese territory.
The resolution says that the Japanese government's authorization of middle school textbooks with distorted references to Dokdo describing them as part of Japanese territory is a clear provocation violating Korea's sovereignty over the islets.
The committee says the move has destroyed the friendly ties between the two countries being built on Korea's help for quake-stricken Japan and may also have a negative impact on future relations.
And the lawmakers also called on the Korean government for a resolute and stern response to Tokyo's claims as the islets in the East Sea are Korean territory.
