The government confirmed its plans on Sunday to make it possible to travel anywhere in Korea within 90 minutes.
The land ministry said it will connect major cities across the country with high-speed KTX trains by the year 2020 so that over 80 percent of the population can reach their destination in an hour and a half or less.
The national railway network consists of linking Daejeon and Daegu and western parts of the country Osong ‚ Gwangju and Mokpo with cities surrounding the capital Seoul.
When the project is completed travel time from Seoul to Gwangju will be reduced by more than half to one hour‚ 11 minutes from just under three hours currently. and from Seoul to Busan an hour and 43 minutes.
During this time‚ KTX trains will be able to go an average speed of 2-hundred-50 kilometers per hour.
