요약정보
The Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety said on Sunday that traces of radioactive iodine-131 have been detected at all 12 of the country's radiation level monitoring sites.
In Daejeon‚ about 130-kilometers south of Seoul‚ small amounts of cesium have also been found.
Analyzing dust collected from the atmosphere from Friday to Saturday morning‚ the institute added the city of Gangneung on the northeastern coast which has been found to have the highest level of radioactive-131 with 0.484 mili-becquerel.
But‚ the level is very low as it is about 0.0-0-5 percent of the acceptable dosage per year.
As for the cesium found in Daejeon‚ this is the second time this element has been detected in Korea‚ after Chuncheon on March 29th which was also a miniscule amount with no harmful effects on a person's health.
And over in Japan‚ authorities there have found radioactive materials in the Pacific Ocean some 40-kilometeres away from the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
Japanese broadcaster NHK said the country's nuclear safety agency found traces of radioactive iodine-131 that is more than twice the acceptable level from a sample collected on March 30th.
The agency added that while it projects the high levels of radioactive material would be diluted in the ocean water and pose no health problems it will continue to monitor the situation closely.
While the plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company has identified the source of the leak at the number two reactor‚ it has been unsuccessful so far in plugging the hole and preventing further contamination of ocean water so far.
Also on Sunday‚ TEPCO announced that it found bodies of two missing workers inside the number four reactor‚ the first to deceased workers found at the nuclear complex.
