The powerful quake not only brought devastation to Japan but it also dealt a heavy blow to the world economy.
Asian shares ended down on Friday‚ notably in Hong Kong and India.
Japan's Nikkei Stock Average ended 1.7 percent lower with shares dropping sharply in the final minutes of trading.
Among the biggest losers are insurance companies‚ as insurance shares worldwide fell in response to the most powerful earthquake in Japanese history.
Shares in the world's biggest insurers such as Munich Re and Hannover showed a considerable drop amid anticipation of a big bailout to cover the losses from the disaster.
Also oil prices were down as the market expected lower demand from Japan the third largest oil importer.
US light crude dipped below 100 dollars a barrel in a week‚ while in London‚ the Brent crude went down to 112 dollars and 25 cents.
The world economy is already crumbling as the unrest in the Middle East continues and experts worry that the Japanese earthquake is adding another uncertainty to the market.
