North Korea appears to have completed building a second launch site for long-range missiles.
Satellite image analyst Tim Brown told Voice of America Thursday that the new satellite images indicate that the regime completed a missile tower at the Tongchangdong site near the border with China.
Brown said the new launch facility is more advanced than the country's first launch site at Musudanri as it appears to be equipped with a rocket engine test stand‚ missile assembly and test buildings‚ a launch bunker and an observation tower.
The analyst added that the new site is seen as key to Pyeongyang's quest to develop technology that is capable of developing inter-continential missiles.
Meanwhile‚ the chief US intelligence official said Wednesday that North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles pose a serious threat to the United States.
National Intelligence Director James Clapper told a Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hearing that North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile program pose a serious threat to the region and the wider world.
Clapper added that although the regime has shown a willingness to reengage in dialogue it also craves international recognition as a nuclear weapons power.
