Many exhibitions in Korea are centering on the theme of the rabbit‚ in commemoration of the Year of the Rabbit. The crafty animal that tricked tigers and tortoises in Korean folklore has come back‚ transformed‚ in modern Korean art.
Shinsegae Gallery showed off works that have the rabbit as the main theme. Particularly notable is the modern interpretation of "sehwa‚" the paintings that were given by the king to his advisors as gifts at the beginning of a new year.

There are a total of 28 works on display."
Traditionally in Korea‚ the rabbit is known as a moon spirit that pounds out eternal youth under a laurel tree. This symbol of longevity‚ harmony‚ and prosperity is reborn in sehwa.
A more facetious rabbit is expressed on canvas with various materials and colors.
There is also a sculpture made with materials such as synthetic resin‚ marble‚ and sandstone.
This work fuses materials and motifs used in traditional Korean art with modernity. Befitting the unusual name of the piece‚ the artist visualized herself appearing in different folk tales about rabbits.
This comic work is a special portrait that replaced the person's head with that of a rabbit.
This exhibition is a rich display of the metaphor‚ symbolism‚ and interpretations that 9 modern artists found in the rabbit.
Lotte Gallery‚ located in Myeongdong‚ also opened an exhibition starring the rabbit. The 41 works by 16 artists on display in the "Rabbit‚ Run" exhibition have the rabbit motif in common‚ but they all express the rabbit in a different light.

The different ways of portraying the rabbit give a glimpse into the minds of the different artists. This work‚ which shows the Moon Rabbit outgrowing the sphere of the moon‚ expresses a desolate modern man struggling to survive in a harsh reality.
This sleek and shiny work reveals human desires‚ which are not elegant nor dignified.
This work‚ which expressed the rabbit through clothing‚ borrowed the rabbit's association with the image of the rabbit as a playboy to discuss the issue of sex.
There are also works that depict life and death while using the rabbit as a vehicle to express the everyday life and emotions of people in modern society.
This work also transformed the rabbit's passive-aggressiveness into an expression of the loneliness of modern man.
There are also works that attempt to break away from the prejudices that people hold about the rabbit‚ rather than examine the rabbit in and of itself.
Artists' expressions of the rabbit‚ based on their real experiences and encounters with rabbits‚ will provide a good opportunity to reexamine the meaning that rabbits have in our lives.
Next up is musicals. The original Korean musical "Siya" is a breath of fresh air in the musical industry! This special work has been created by Park Jong-cheol‚ a master of original musicals‚ and staged just in time for the new year.
