In November the average price of mandarins traded at the wholesale markets of the major cities around the country was 13‚000 won per 10 kilogram box.
The price was a bit down from 15‚000 won at the beginning of October‚ and since then it has remained stable between 12‚000 and 15‚000 won.
It is up by 50 percent on average from the previous year and by about 10 percent from two years prior when the price was good.

A total of 73‚000 tons was shipped in October and November‚ which means the amount this year has decreased to 1‚700 tons by the day on average‚ down by 40 percent from last year and by more than 30 percent from two years ago.
In addition‚ the drop in the shipment amount of such fruit as apples‚ pears‚ and sweet persimmons has contributed to its positive price.

] “The early maturing variety‚ comprising 80 percent of the total Jeju mandarins‚ has been shipped since mid-November and the prospect for the positive price of the fruit harvested this year is bright.”
The total of 529‚000 tons is expected to be harvested this year‚ down by 130‚000 tons from last year.
According to the experts‚ the positive price will be steady by mid-December and afterward the price is expected to rise again.
The problem is the significant price difference: the highest is 80‚000 won and the lowest 3‚000 won. Therefore‚ the quality management along with the control of the amount of shipment should be cautiously carried out in the production area.
