Italy reportedly dropped its veto to the signing of a free trade deal between Korea and the European Union on Wednesday.
In return for its consent‚ Italy asked for the agreement to be enacted in July 2011 six months later than the original plan of January.
EU states were supposed to agree to the treaty earlier this week‚ but Italy blocked proceedings fearing it could damage its auto sector.
Sources at the European Council indicated that the foreign ministers of the European economic bloc‚ due to meet on the sidelines of a EU summit‚ would formalize the deal on Thursday.
The source added that this should clear the way for the leaders of Korea and the EU to ink the free trade treaty at a summit in Brussels slated for October 6th.
