An atmosphere of grief and sorrow pervaded through the streets of the capital Seoul on Tuesday as the nation learned of the passing of former President Kim Dae-jung.

[Interview : Kim Soon-ahk] "I feel so bad. I am feeling goosebumps and teary-eyed. He was known to be so diligent and he visited North Korea and paved the way for the inter-Korean talks and unification. I really do not know what to say."
Letting go of a lifelong pro-democracy activist does not come without remembrance of his achievements and hopes that Kim would be modeled after even after his death.
[Interview : Yoo So-yeon] "He had been in the hospital for some time. I wished he was healthy and it hurts my heart. I think the inter-Korean issue is what highlights his life and achievements. I hope succeeding presidents or others would carry on what he worked so hard at regarding peace in the country‚ rather than political strife."
[Interview : Choi Jin-gook] "He was old‚ so the news did not really shock me. I wish he could have played his role in bringing the people‚ liberal and conservative‚ people in the east and the west together before he died."
Koreans were quick in getting the news on text messages‚ phone calls‚ and special editions of newspapers printed and distributed just a couple of hours after his passing.
Getting their news was easy but bidding their silent farewells to yet another former president this year was not.
