The Korean government has launched a campaign in Mongolia to reduce yellow dust and sandstorms in the region.
The campaign called Greenbelt Plantation Project is an initiative by the Korea Forestry service to plant some 1-and-a-half million trees in Mongolia to prevent rampant desertification.
Officials from Korea and Mongolia launched the 9-and-a-half million dollar program in a recent ceremony in Ulaabaatur.
The tree planting program is an outcome of a 2006 agreement reached on environmental issues between Mongolia and Korea.
About ten kinds of trees will be planted including aspens‚ which are able to thrive in desert areas.
