Data leaked by Edward Snowden‚ the man who blew the whistle on the National Security Agency‚ appears to show that England’s Government Communication Headquarters‚ the British version of the NSA‚ has been tapping into fiber optic cables that carry telephone and email information.
The Guardian pinpointed two programs that the G-C-H-Q has been running to eavesdrop on private communications.
The data leaked by Snowden says that the G-C-H-Q and the N-S-A have the capabilities to access a trove of communications between innocent people‚ as well as targeted suspects‚ from a wide array of sources‚ including phone calls‚ email messages‚ social networking entries and internet browser histories.
Meanwhile‚ the U.S. Justice Department has charged the former NSA contractor with espionage and theft of government property.
