The Thai government has declared a state of emergency in the area of the capital Bangkok as anti-government protests have gotten rough.
Red-shirted demonstrators were seen Sunday smashing a car carrying Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva but he is believed to be unharmed.
They are demanding the resignation of the prime minister as they claim the current government is illegitimate.
And because of the protests meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations with Korea‚ China and Japan were all cancelled Saturday.
The emergency decree bans gatherings of more than five people‚ allows censoring of media reports and authorizes government deployment of the army.
