Despite the media frenzy over the New York Philharmonic's concert in Pyeongyang‚ the Bush administration has played down the implications of the one-off event on U.S.-North Korean ties.
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino was quoted as saying that "at the end of the day‚ a concert is a concert‚ not a diplomatic coup."
She added that ties between the two countries would start to normalize only after Pyeongyang renounces its nuclear activities.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had also earlier cast doubt on the likelihood of the event to bring about radical changes in Pyeongyang's foreign policies.
