The United Nations World Food Programme is working on plans to resume its food aid project in North Korea.
WFP spokesman Gerald Bourke said in Beijing on Friday‚ that the agency is considering implementing a new plan for the North this year that would include economic development assistance‚ along with a smaller scale of food aid.
The WFP had been feeding some 6-million people in the North‚ until December‚ when it shut down the food program‚ on Pyeongyang's request.
Mr. Bourke said WFP officials in Pyeongyang are currently working on details‚ including the number of people to be fed.
But he added the new food aid program would affect a much smaller number of North Koreans.
