Korean swimming legend Cho Oh-ryun a four-time Asian Games gold medalist died of a heart attack today at the age of 56.
Cho was discovered by his wife at his home in the country's southwest and rushed to hospital but was declared dead.
Cho nicknamed the "Asian Seal" became a household name in Korea by capturing four golds in the 400-meter and 1‚500-meter freestyle events at the 1970 and 1974 Asian Games.
He also swam across the Korea-Japan strait in 1980 and was planning to repeat the feat using another sea route in August next year.
He also swam across the Dover Strait between England and France in 1982 and swam 33 times around South Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo in 2008.
