Kenya plans to close the world's largest refugee camp over what it calls an "existential threat" to its country. Dadaab Camp is home to around 350-thousand Somalis displaced by decades of anarchy and war. Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto told reporters on the sidelines of the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul that Kenya has facts to back up the threat. (ENGLISH) "There is a lot of radicalization by extremist elements in the refugee camps‚ especially on the young people‚ idle young people in the refugee camps." Ruto said attacks that killed hundreds of people at a mall and university in Kenya in recent years were planned at the camp. Bruce‚ how does Kenya begin to move such a large number of people? Kenya has threatened to expel refugees in the past. For now‚ its says it's sticking to a deadline of six months that it agreed to with the U.N. and Somalia. The government also says it hopes the international community helps build schools and other infrastructure to lure Somalis back across the border. Somalia is a country rebuilding with few public services‚ which will only make the transition‚ if it comes to that‚ more difficult. Thanks for your coverage‚ Bruce.
