South Korea says the strongest ever UN sanctions on North Korea are in the works for its recent nuclear and missile provocations. Speaking upon his arrival in Washington for talks with U.S. officials‚ Cho Tae-yong‚ deputy chief of the presidential office of national security‚ said China shares the broad view that North Korea's latest nuclear test can never be tolerated. Cho said the goal of South Korea-U.S. collaboration is to bring about an end to Pyongyang's nuclear and missile development. Asked about the deployment of a U.S. ballistic missile system to the Korean Peninsula‚ Cho said defense officials from the two sides will reach a decision on THAAD. China's foreign ministry said Wednesday that plans for the deployment should be scrapped as it would threaten regional stability.
