But there was one fatality in the US.
A 25-year-old man was declared dead on Friday afternoon after being swept away by the waves off California's coast while trying to take pictures of the tsunami despite official warnings to stay away.
California on Friday declared a state of emergency in four of its coastal counties but ports remain open and there have been no reports of damage or distress calls.
Four others were also washed out to sea in the state of Oregon‚ but either got out of the water themselves or were rescued.
Meanwhile‚ the tsunami hit the Hawaiian islands around 3 a.m. Friday‚ local time‚ and‚ according to the US Coast Guard‚ sunk 10 boats.
