Drivers transporting children will be responsible for more than just picking up and dropping off the kids starting sometime this year.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security announced plans today to revise the Road Traffic Act in the first half of this year making it mandatory for drivers to step out of their buses or vans to make sure their young riders get on and off their vehicles safely.
This‚ in the case that there is no one to assist the children.
Under the proposed revision‚ drivers who don't help could be fined and face even heavier penalties if their violation results in an accident.
The move comes in the wake of several recent accidents happening when drivers drove off before their young riders were completely out of the vehicle.
