Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has dismissed the opposition protests taking place in Tehran.
Appearing on state television Tuesday‚ Ahmadinejad said that it is evident that there are "enemies" in the nation that were trying to "tarnish the Iranian nation's brilliance".
He said he realized that there are people hostile to the government‚ but he stressed that they would "get nowhere" with their protests.
Meanwhile‚ over in Washington US President Barack Obama said the US could not dictate what went on inside Iran‚ but he hoped the Iranian people would have the courage to express "their yearning for greater freedom and a more representative government."
