Officials at a Seoul amusement park could face criminal charges for neglecting to take safety precautions‚ before holding a promotional event.
The recently hapless Lotte World saw at least 35 people injured in a stampede‚ when tens of thousands jostled to enter the park on Sunday as the gates opened.
This was the first of a six-day event‚ offering free admission to the park and its rides‚ to attract visitors after a fatal accident on a roller coaster ride early this month.
Seoul Songpa Police Office says 10 Lotte World executives have been summoned‚ including the department heads of sales and planning‚ to investigate why there weren't enough staff‚ and police weren't notified in advance.
Lotte World says it privately placed more than 200 guards on duty Sunday.
The amusement park will now be closed until the end of March.
