요약정보

One-hundred-ten years of diplomatic ties.
Ever since concluding the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce back in 1901‚ Belgium and Korea have maintained a close relationship.
Belgium participated in the Korean War to safeguard the peninsula and also sent an investment mission to help Korea overcome economic difficulties… when it was hit by a financial crisis in 1997.
And celebrating the 1-hundred-10th anniversary of their friendship‚ Korea's Ministry of Culture‚ Sports and Tourism organized a performance in Brussels‚ Belgium on Wednesday.
[Interview : Choung Byoung-gug‚ Minister
Ministry of Culture‚ Sports & Tourism] "This year marks the 110th year of diplomatic ties between Korea and Belgium. The two countries have been together for over a century‚ and to celebrate our friendship‚ we have prepared a performance by the National Dance Company of Korea. Korea and Belgium are planning to expand two-way cultural exchanges‚ which will hopefully lead to a boost in the exchange of goods.
The 7-hundred-50 seat theatre was packed with both Korean and Belgian dignitaries.
The performance "Soul‚ Sunflower‚" presented by the National Dance Company of Korea‚ offered a taste of both East and West through the universal languages of jazz music and Korean dance.
The performers promised the audience two hours of pure delight for both their eyes and ears.
[Interview : Lee Jeong-yun‚ Ballerino
National Dance Company of Korea] "The dance that will be performed tonight‚ 'Soul‚ Sunflower‚' has been under international spotlight since it was first presented in 2006. The dance is full of Korean traditions‚ and I'm happy to be presenting it in Belgium‚ the country of art and culture."
Fans of Korean culture welcomed the performance of Korean dance and hoped that more of such events will take place in the Belgian capital in the future‚ perhaps even with their favorite K-pop singers.
[Interview : Hocevar Martine‚ Audience] "I learned a lot about Korean culture through Arirang TV. I hope Korean singers will come to Belgium‚ if it's possible. That will be so nice."
The dance performance is the start of a series of cultural events to be held throughout this year‚ such as an exhibition of Korean traditional instruments as well as a Korean speech contest.
[Reporter : Hwang Sung-hee‚ Brussels‚ Belgium
ssung86@arirang.co.kr] "An old Belgian proverb says… "the older the pot‚ the better it cooks."
And as this is what the two countries hope for in their relationship after 110 years of diplomatic ties they will continue their efforts to further strengthen their friendship.
