There are pears galore in orchards this time of year.
They say the fruit is best grown on land at the mouth of a river which ensures good irrigation and drainage.
At such a location in Hadong‚ South Gyeongsang Province‚ an array of ripe and delicious-looking pears bigger than a man's fist are ready for harvest.
Farmers are busy at work reaping‚ or rather carefully plucking the fruits of their labor.
They say the pears are like their children because they require a lot of care and attention to grow plump and healthy.
This time of year is said to be the happiest for the farmers.
After the pears are collected‚ they are sent to a sorting center where a machine automatically selects them according to size and sweetness.
The townspeople come together and join hands throughout the whole process which involves packaging and shipping.
The harvest is not as bountiful as last year due to the cold weather this past spring and the scorching heat during the summer.
But still the farmers say they couldn't be happier.
Fresh pear harvesting traditionally begins in full swing from early September and continues through early October.
