Korean President Lee Myung-bak was briefed on policy goals for 2011 by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the Small and Medium Business Association at the Presidential Office‚ Wednesday morning.
The ministry announced that Korea's trade is to exceed one trillion US dollars next year for the first time in history making it the ninth country to reach the figure alongside the US‚ Germany and China.
It said that to solidify its position as an advanced economy the government will encourage shared growth between large corporations and small- and mid-sized firms‚ secure new markets and accelerate improvement in the industrial system through green and convergence technologies.
During the session President Lee pointed out that Korea's large corporations tend to make more investments abroad rather than in the domestic arena leading to the limitation of job inlets.
He called on the government to focus on facilitating a friendly environment for large corporations to invest in Korea by examining promising sectors that could obtain global competitiveness.

"정부가 어떻게 하면 또 어떤 업종을 어떻게 하면 국내 투자를 하고도 국제 경쟁력을 가질 수 있는가 하는 것도 면밀히 검토할 필요가 있다."
While stressing the importance of realizing shared growth between large and small- to mid-sized firms the Korean leader said the move is aimed at creating more jobs and that it can benefit both sides.
