Working-level military talks between the United Nations Command and North Korea were held Thursday morning at the border village of Panmunjom to discuss the UNC-proposed generals' meeting.
At the hour-and-a-half preliminary the two sides represented by US Colonel Kurt Taylor and his North Korean counterpart Park Gi-yong technically agreed to hold the general-level meeting where top brass from the UNC and North Korea will discuss the March sinking of the South Korean warship Cheonan.
Despite the fact that they did not iron out the schedule and agenda of the future talks both sides agreed to hold follow-up discussions to fine-tune the details after consulting with their respective superiors.
They have yet to set the date for the upcoming meeting.
The UNC said the two representatives did not directly touch upon the Cheonan incident… as the meeting was aimed more at arranging higher grade talks between the two sides.
General-level meetings between the UNC and North Korea have been held 16 times since their establishment in 1998 with the aim of boosting mutual trust and easing military tensions.
Thursday's colonel-level meeting was originally scheduled for Tuesday but the communist state called for a postponement citing "administrative reasons."
