All eight assailants died including a bomber killed while forcing his way into the Education Ministry.
The Taliban swiftly claimed responsibility for the attacks saying they were retaliating against the mistreatment of prisoners in Afghan jails.
The Taliban which have been carrying out a series of high-profile attacks since last year warned of further violence.
Meanwhile in Iraq more than 20 people were killed in a series of bomb explosions the most fatal one being two simultaneous blasts at a bus terminal in a Shiite neighborhood in the capital.
The blasts ended a month-long halt in violence that dropped significantly due to heightened security ahead of parliamentary elections.
