Typhoon Morakot not only swept through Taiwan but also brought the H1N1 virus to devastated villages.
Taiwanese media report that 13 soldiers cleaning up the disaster area were confirmed to have the flu while another 200 soldiers‚ who also worked at the site‚ are undergoing observation.
The island was struck by the worst typhoon in 50 years earlier this month which left more than 670 people either dead or missing.

Meanwhile‚ over in South Africa influenza A is widespread killing nine people over the weekend boosting the total number of deaths up to 18.
Health authorities there said the country now has more than 5-thousand confirmed cases and urged critical care for pregnant women with flu-like symptoms.
Half of the dead in South Africa were pregnant women.
Pregnancy is one of the high risk factors for catching the H1N1 virus as well as other illnesses like asthma‚ diabetes and a weak immune system.
