Some new musicals around town are taking familiar stories that many of us grew up with and putting a new spin on them.
Our Yim Yoonhee tells us about a few worth checking out.
Within the past decade‚ the musical theater industry has exploded in Korea‚ and it's even branching out to other countries.
Everything from major Broadway productions to small domestic productions -- we've had them all here in Korea.
Well‚ here are a couple of musicals that feature stories we're all familiar with‚ but with a twist.
At one point or another‚ most teens dream of rocking out with a band on the stage.
The musical "Audition" follows the story of a group of young teens‚ in particular a boy and girl who pursue their dreams of becoming the next world-famous musician.
"Audition" brings a new element to musicals -- the actors and actresses not only play their roles‚ but play their instruments as well.
It's a concert musical‚ filled with applause and cheers for an encore performance.

But this time‚ Robin Hood teams up with Prince Phillip to lead a revolution.
The musical "Robin Hood" is based on the original German production‚ and stars a powerful cast made up of veteran favorites and up-and-coming stars.

The seven dwarves may have been Snow White's friends in the classic fairytale‚ but here they tell the story of the young Prince of Fairyland‚ looking for his princess.
"Dwarves" is a new original Korean musical production that is based on the childhood fairytales "Snow White‚" "Cinderella" and "Little Mermaid."
It's been praised for its original comedic content‚ and its unusual approach to the stage.
I haven't seen "Robin Hood" yet‚ but I recognized some familiar faces in there.
Well‚ you've got a good eye for the stars.
Yoseob of K-pop group BEAST will play the protagonist Prince Phillip‚ and he'll share that role with Kuhyun of K-pop group Super Junior and musical theater actor Park Sung-hwan . This musical is interesting because it contains many comparisons to the current state of the Korean government‚ making reference to the fact that the ruling and opposition parties get so caught up in arguing with each other that the public interest takes a backseat.
Interesting.
And the first musical we saw‚ "Audition‚" looks almost like a concert instead of a musical.
Good observation.
In fact‚ it's been recognized for its unique atmosphere. The production aims to engage the audience‚ and that's just what audience members have responded to. Many say it feels like you're in a crazy concert‚ jumping up and down in a large crowd. So‚ if you're looking for an adrenaline-filled musical‚ this is one to check out. Reporter :
