Turning to the cultural scene - The fifth annual Hi! Seoul Festival is now in full swing in different parts of the capital‚ including Seoul Plaza and the business district of Yeouido.
Our Kim Minjung was there to cover the event's highlights.
Brazil has the Rio Samba carnival‚ Japan‚ the Sapporo snow festival and Germany‚ its Oktoberfest beer festival.
So what does Korea have?
The Hi! Seoul Festival‚ which opened its 10-day run Friday.
The annual event has been said to lack a main theme or attraction‚ so the capital with its 10 million residents has strived to make this year's edition world-class.
''One of the highlights of this year's festival is a chance to walk on the Han River‚ quite literally‚ that runs through the heart of Seoul.''
Visitors can walk across the river barefoot on a 300-meter long bridge‚ 30 centimeters underwater.
Those taking part say dipping their toes in the icy-cold river was a unique way to cool off from the pre-summer heat‚ and spend quality time with family and friends.
''I usually don't have time for my children‚ so this is a good opportunity to bond with them. My children find it very interesting‚ as well.''
- ''I want to do this everyday!''
The reenactment of the royal procession of 18th-century Joseon Dynasty King Jeongjo also attracted huge crowds.
The event comprised more than 900 people and 120 horses‚ and began at Changdeok Palace in the morning and wrapped up just north of the Han River.
The parade was aimed at highlighting the original purpose of the journey promoting the value of filial piety.
''I think this gives a good overview of the history‚ food‚ music and entertainment.''
''This should be the main event for Seoul. I think if it becomes a guaranteed event‚ people will come to see the festival‚ along with the cherry blossom season and the beginning of spring.''
City officials say they expect six million people including 250-thousand foreigners to attend the 10-day event.
Seoul and the Han River are often called the symbol of Korea's economic achievement.
Organizers say they hope the Hi! Seoul Festival will become another achievement for the capital this time‚ of culture.
