요약정보
The eurozone is once again facing the risk of financial crisis led by debt-hit nations.
After the collapse of its property market two years ago Ireland is running a deficit of 32 percent of its gross domestic product.
And so‚ it is under pressure from other euro nations to accept a bailout from the European Union or the International Monetary Fund in fear of another scenario similar to Greece's debt catastrophe‚ where budget problems in one country plunged the entire euro-zone into crisis.
Greece waited months before requesting an IMF-EU bailout.
There have already been talks between the Irish government and European institutions but Dublin has stressed that it does not need assistance for its government.
[Interview : Brian Cowen‚ Irish Prime Minister] "Well as we have been saying over the weekend‚ Ireland is making no application for the funding of the state because clearly we are pre-funded right up to the middle of next year."
Nevertheless‚ Irish media report the government is considering asking for money for its banks which is politically a less risky move than a state bailout as Cowen's government is facing a by-election next week‚ which it cannot afford to lose.
But‚ there are market speculations that the cash injection could happen whether Ireland likes it or not and the amount could be up to 80 billion euros or roughly over 1-hundred billion US dollars.
Meanwhile‚ Portugal's finance minister said his country is also at risk of a financial crisis due to the danger of contagion from other deficit-ridden euro nations such as Greece and Ireland.
Finance ministers from the euro-zone states are scheduled to hold their monthly talks on Tuesday local time to discuss the issue while the market speculates that they could announce some form of support after the meeting.
