요약정보
According to an opinion poll conducted by Media Research on Monday‚ independent candidate Ahn Cheol-soo is ahead by about 3 percent‚ over the ruling Saenuri Party's Park Geun-hye in a hypothetical two-way race.
But there's a bigger gap between the two‚ when looking only at support from those in their 40s.
For now‚ Ahn has more support from that bloc of voters‚ while Park has a stronger hold on people in their 50s and 60s.
However‚ pundits say that many voters in their 40s tend to be more moderate‚‚ meaning their support is fluid and could shift from one party to another.
Therefore‚ the candidate that receives the most swing votes‚ from voters in their 40s‚ will have a better chance of winning in some of the more closely contested regions‚ like Busan and South Gyeongsang Province.
A swing vote is a vote that could go to any of the candidates in an election as the voter is not affiliated with a particular political party.
Busan is considered a traditional stronghold of the conservative ruling party‚ but voters there have been starting to lean more toward the liberal side‚ represented by Ahn and main opposition Democratic United Party candidate Moon Jae-in.
So with hopes of scraping in all the possible votes‚ the three major presidential candidates continued to work against the clock on Tuesday.
Park chaired a presidential election committee meeting for the first time at Saenuri Party headquarters in Seoul to discuss campaign strategies for the regions she toured‚ over the Chuseok holiday.
As for Moon‚ he headed over to a cemetery in Maseok Moran Park‚ to pay respect to those that died fighting for democracy.
And Ahn paid a visit to Lee Hee-ho‚ the widow of late President Kim Dae-jung.
During their meeting‚ Lee asked Ahn to help restart inter-Korean talks and revive democracy in Korea‚ if he's elected as the country's next president.
