Korea‚ the United States‚ France and Belgium will work together on minimizing the civilian use of highly-enriched uranium fuel.
That was the pledge made on the sidelines of the Seoul Nuclear Security Summit on Tuesday‚ where officials from the four countries revealed the details of a joint project focused on converting HIGHLY-enriched uranium fuel used in high performance research reactors to LOW-enriched uranium fuel.

Testing which could help lead to the conversion of these reactors from HEU to LEU."
Fuel used in research reactors account for the largest proportion of the civilian use of highly enriched uranium‚ or HEU.
More than 6-hundred kilograms of the material are currently used in over 20 high performance research reactors every year.
The commitment from the four nations may seem small‚ but it is a big step towards ensuring global security.
