But even in a country like Kenya where there are areas a dense wild animal population‚ efforts are taking place in both the public and private sectors to sustain the coexistence of humans and the wildlife.
Kenya‚ a country in East Africa‚ is well-renowned for its vast diversity of wildlife population‚ home to the Masai Mara National Reserve in the southwest that connects to the Serengeti National Park in neighboring Tanzania.
The Mara‚ as the locals often call it‚ is densely occupied by a range of large-sized roarers like the lion and the cheetah. and is the migrating destination for the zebra and the wildebeest from the Serengeti starting in the month of June.
We were lucky enough to spot four of the so-called Big Five game‚ including the lion‚ the African elephant‚ the Cape Buffalo‚ and the rhinoceros.
And the fifth‚ belonging to the group of the most popular‚ yet difficult and dangerous‚ to hunt‚ is the leopard.
Here‚ a family of lions is feasting on a buffalo late afternoon‚ one likely captured the night before.
The next morning‚ a pack of female lions are seen tending to their offspring.
And as the youngsters are still very fragile‚ their older siblings are forced to keep a distance as they may unintentionally injure the babies.
Up north‚ at Lake Nakuru National Park we are welcomed by a horde of pelicans‚ as well as the lake's world famous habitant -- the algae-eating fuchsia pink flamingo.
Lake Nakuru is also protected under the Ramsar Convention on wetlands.
We decided to go on a boat safari one sunny morning‚ and standing or kneeling on the lake bed‚ a family of hippos was enjoying a nap under the scorching sun.
A typical hippo clan consists of a father‚ his numerous partners‚ and their children.
While it may seem like Kenyans could easily encounter wild animals in their daily lives‚ the central and local governments have set boundaries within national parks and reserves to protect the well-being of both the animals‚ as well as humans.
And alongside the conservancies‚ are animal orphanages like this one in the central Rift Valley region‚ currently fostering nearly 1-hundred-70 injured or abandoned animals of 29 species‚ to assist their return to wilderness.
A part of an effort to better educate and inform local residents and visitors about the wildlife‚ the orphanage has so far opened doors to some 8-thousand students around the country.

Since the main objective here is to rehabilitate the animals‚ they are gradually exposed to less commercialized food and training involving dogs‚ then carnivores.
