요약정보
US President Barack Obama said Wednesday that 33-thousand forces in Afghanistan sent during a "surge" in 2009 will withdraw by next year.
In an address to the nation from the White House‚ Obama said "the tide of war is receding‚" and also thanked his forces for fulfilling a mission to kill al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden last month.

] "Our mission will change from combat to support. By 2014‚ this process of transition will be complete‚ and the Afghan people will be responsible for their own security."
Ten-thousand troops will withdraw starting next month‚ while 23-thousand more will be brought home by September 2012.
All US troops will pull out from Afghanistan by 2014.
By retracting 10-thousand troops this year‚ Obama has opted for a more aggressive drawdown plan.
US Defense Secretary Robert Gates urged the president to withdraw support troops only‚ starting with 3-to-5 thousand soldiers.
Initial reactions were divided‚… with the majority of Democrats supporting Obama's decision.
Some called for a faster withdrawal with more troops‚ while others were more cautious about leaving Afghanistan.
Meanwhile‚ nearly three-quarters of Americans agreed with the pull-out‚ according to a CNN survey conducted earlier this month.
President Obama also stressed his will to focus on resolving economic and political issues within the nation.

] "Now we must invest in America's greatest resource - our people. America‚ it is time to focus on nation building here at home."
Many speculate that Obama's decision comes in line with his second bid for office next year‚ as the "surge" troops will be brought home just as he promised‚ before the presidential election in November.
The administration also aims to save some 10 billion dollars per year on war spending‚ and focus on recovering its struggling economy.
