요약정보
Building a planet-responsible civilization.
This is the theme for the Global Green Growth Summit 2011‚ hosted for the first time by the Korean government in collaboration with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
This two-day summit in Seoul is aimed at promoting a green growth strategy that will lead to new prosperity for the international community.
And President Lee Myung-bak‚ in his opening speech on Monday‚ stressed the importance of humans living in harmony with nature.
[Interview : President Lee Myung-bak] "We can make a big difference if our efforts can be combined beyond an individual level. Only then can the foundation be laid for a 'Planet-Responsible Civilization.'"
The Korean government has highlighted the green growth industry as one of its key growth engines ever since President Lee took office in 2008.
And it has established an action plan to achieving its goals by laying out policies such as cutting greenhouse gas emissions and developing eco-friendly technologies.
[Interview : Nicholas Stern‚ Co-Vice Chair
Global Green Growth Institute] "I think the challenges that Korea will face will be the challenges that any rich country faces in terms of the energy intensity of its activities and the source of that energy But‚ I do want to underline that Korea is very much in the lead. Korea has set out strong objectives‚ it's been working out how to deliver on those objectives."
Professor Stern also emphasized how important it is that world leaders commit to a long-term approach in regards to green growth and not to focus on short-term goals.
