요약정보
More than one hundred judiciary officials gathered in Seoul to attend the 14th biennial Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific.
Under the theme 'The Present and the Future of Judiciary in the 21st Century'‚ presentation and discussion sessions of the four-day conference kicked off on Monday where chief justices of more than 25 countries plan to share their respective expertise and promote judicial communication and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
[Interview : Lee Yong-hoon‚ Korean Chief Justice] "The world‚ nowadays‚ is witnessing a cross-the-border interaction on a daily basis and to that extent I hope that this year's conference will serve as a channel to actively exchange insights so that countries in this region can establish more profound judiciary systems."
Monday's session started with the Korean Chief Justice's presentation on using information technology in improving court efficiency.
The Korean Judiciary established a data warehouse in 2006‚ enabling people to access various judicial information such as court cases‚ law‚ and regulation.
And although limited only to civil cases‚ an electronic litigation system opened up just last month to provide more convenience for the public.
And some participating countries chose the computerized court system as one of the most interesting topics at the conference.
[Interview : Arifin Zakaria‚ Malayan Chief Judge] "In Malaysia we have introduced e-court system‚ in other words it's a paperless court‚ people can file cases from the office‚ and we do not have to open up file in courts‚ it is all on computers that will expedite exposure and ease the administration of the cases."
And for others‚ learning from more advanced countries was one of the primary reasons for attending.
[Interview : Paulus Lotulung‚ Indonesian Deputy Chief Justice ] "We hope that by joining this conference we can learn from other countries and hear from lessons learned‚ the experience of other countries to give us support for our judicial reform. It is very important because we have the same problems universal problems in the judiciary"
[Reporter : Laah Hyun-kyung
