This is Ewha Womans University.
[Interview : ] "One‚ two‚ three!"
This is where an exhibition showcasing Australia's aboriginal culture was held on the 11th to mark the Year of Friendship.
[Interview : Sam Robert Gerovich‚ Ambassador of Australia to Korea] " The friendship and cooperation that our two countries have developed over the past 50 years and even earlier has been very pleasing and has provided excellent basis to continue to pursue an even closer relationship in the future."
Next‚ the Vice President of Ewha gives the opening speech.
[Interview : Lee Kyung-sook‚ Vice President
Ewha Womans University] "Australia is well known for its efforts to protect aboriginal cultures and arts. I think this is why this exhibition of aboriginal arts is being held as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations."
The Balgo region in Western Australia is a land of vast deserts. The artworks depict the life stories of the aboriginal people living there.
The exhibition of Australian aboriginal art grabs the attention of the students with its exotic style which bring bold colors and patterns together in a harmonious composition.
[Interview : Sam Robert Gerovich‚ Ambassador of Australia to Korea] "I'm sure that through it people will develop a more sophisticated understanding of multicultural Australia and the very important role that the indigenous Australians play in our modern culture."
[Interview : Lee Kyung-sook‚ Vice President
Ewha Womans University] "Aboriginal culture has always been an inspiration for modern art. I hope the students find the opportunity to reflect on that along with the role of Australian missionaries in the early years of Ewha."
The students admire the colorful artworks and take pictures to keep the memory with them.
[Interview : Bang Eun-jeong‚ Student
Ewha Womans University] "I'm not familiar with the Balgo aborigines‚ but I think the paintings reflect the gentleness of their land."
[Interview : Kim Su-min‚ Student online reporter
Embassy of Australia in Korea] "Australia brings to mind images of the vast wilderness‚ and the colors of the paintings captured that feeling well."
[Interview : Sam Robert Gerovich‚ Ambassador of Australia to Korea] "I think its an important milestone. Australia and Korea go back long way. Just as the Vice president said in her opening remarks today Australian missionaries first came to Korea in 1889. The relationship has lasted more than 120 years. Much of modern relationship is based on the contribution Australian made in the korean war in helping to liberate Korea from the aggression of th North."
The "Meet Australia in Ewha" festival will introduce more of Australian arts and culture in the month of May.
We look forward to more exchanges in all fields between Korea and Australia binding the two countries in a stronger friendship in the years to come.
