Before‚ all uniforms were exactly the same‚ because of the influence of Japanese colonial rule."
The history of uniforms in Korea begins with the Ewha Hakdang‚ Korea's first school for women.
Most school uniforms in the past‚ with their cookie-cutter patterns andd esigns‚ were the ultimate symbol of regulation and conformity.
[Interview : Lee Yun-jeong‚ Seoul resident] "These days‚ you see some kids wearing shortened skirts.
That would have been unthinkable before. There were strict rules regarding skirt length."
That's all changed! Today‚ every school is choosing to not only promote school unity and belonging‚ but also express spirit and individuality by differentiating the design of its uniform from other schools.
Some students even alter their uniforms to fit their personal fashion taste.

I think they try to change the uniform to fit their style."
