요약정보
Korean President Lee Myung-bak is to embark on a trip to Indonesia Wednesday to hold a one-on-one with the Indonesian leader and attend an annual democracy forum followed by a state visit to Malaysia on Friday.
Due to the ongoing tension between the two Koreas following North Korea's shelling of Yeonpyong Island two weeks ago President Lee has planned a rigorous schedule by pushing back his departure from Korea and returning early on Saturday.
He is to take off late Wednesday night and arrive early Thursday morning at the Indonesian resort island of Bali where he is expected to hold a bilateral summit with his Indonesian counterpart‚ Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The two plan to review the strategic partnership between the two countries and affirm cooperation in the global arena through ASEAN and the G20.
President Yudhoyono visited Seoul to take part in the G20 Seoul summit in November despite the ongoing disaster relief operations in his country after a volcanic eruption and earthquake.
President Lee will also attend the 3rd Bali Democracy Forum to co-chair the annual event with the Indonesian president and deliver an opening speech sharing Korea's experience of establishing a democracy and its economic development.
He will also show the nation's commitment to ensuring regional cooperation‚ peace and stability.
Later in the afternoon the Korean leader will fly to Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur for a two-day state visit in time for the 50th anniversary of the forging of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
He will hold a one-on-one with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to discuss ways to boost cooperation in the fields of trade and investment‚ science‚ technology and culture and later sign a treaty on criminal and judicial collaboration before returning home Saturday morning.
